Having trouble working out how many I have and how many are being used. Reason being is that I'm looking to add two m.2 drives but would need a PCIe card. I'm guessing it wont max out PCIe lanes but good to know how many I have and how to work it out. I have This is my system:

Ryzen 5 3600
MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max
3070
3 x SSD (1 is NVMe)
16GB DDR4 3600

If you use an add-in card the motherboard should allocate 8 PCIe lanes to it, taking them from the GPU. This will result in a modest slowdown in games. You should check to see if the M.2 card requires PCIe bifurcation or can cope without it.

I believe the GPU will still run at pcie 3.0 X16 in the top slot while the m.2 in the second pcie slot will run pcie 2.0 x4 unless any other pcie slot is populated in which case it will run 2.0 x2
